26 Comments on “What crate/cage should I get my Cockapoo puppy?”

  1. I have a question. Were these cockapoos a mix of poodles and English cocker spaniels? I ask because of the accent and the size of the dogs. I just seem to recall cockapoos being smaller, and I’m thinking it may be due to American cocker spaniels being smaller than their English brethren. Is this the case?

    1. These are miniature cockapoos which are the middle size dogs. for smaller ones you would want TOY 😀

    1. Yes an F2 will have both F1 Parents.
      Cocker spaniel & Poodle = F1 Cockapoo
      F1 Cockapoo & F1 Cockapoo = F2 Cockpaoo
Cocker spaniel or poodle & Cockapoo = F1b Cockapoo

  2. How do you keep the puppy from crying/barking during the night when in the crate? And long does it last? Thanks

    1. Its very hard top comment on this as there are many techniques you can use. I train my puppies before they get to the new owners so most of the hard work has already been done. What ever you decide to do you must not go down into the night or the puppy will not learn to hold in their toilet, plus they know that the next night someone will come and let them out. You can put a blanket over the cage, you can make a noise on the cage of floor with a rolled up newspaper, you can use spray etc etc.

    1. Depends what size your puppy is? Are they Toy, Miniature or Standard. I would always get a 30″ crate for a puppy when you first get them, or you could get a 36″ crate with a divider in as that could be too big as a young puppy. For the bigger dogs i would start off in a 36″ then upgrade their cage to a 42″ or bigger from 6 months old.

  3. I was told my cockapoo would be 15 pounds full grown. She is 16 months and 41 pounds. I bought a cat size plastic carrier for the car, and a fabric carrier to carry her on my chest, and stairs so she could get up on the couch…small collars and a cat harness as the smallest dog harness was too big for her. I also bought a 30″ crate with a divider.
Well I had to sell everything and buy bigger. I won’t buy a bigger crate though as she doesn’t like it so it would only be for an emergency.
I didn’t get to see her parents. The breeder turned out to be sleazy.

  4. Hi I’m looking at getting a cockapoo what one should I get f1, f2 etc and wether it should be a toy, miniature or standard what are the differences. and also can you recommend any good breeders.

    1. Henry Thomas Yes I am a breeder. please tap Dover doodles into face book and join my groups 🙂

  5. Crates can be useful, but it’s just not right caging a pup up like that for very long. Please take that last pup out and give him a treat. 😊
