Thinking about getting your first dog? While it seems absurd to many of us, some people have never owned a dog before – and that’s okay! We welcome you to the dark side. While there is a lot of research that goes into general dog ownership, there are some breeds of dogs that are better suited for a first timer than others. While all dogs are individuals within a breed, and can vary greatly in personalities and needs, it’s safe to say that your chances of finding a good novice dog are better within some breed limits than others. Remember that there is no bad dog breed, and if you’re set on a breed that’s not on this list, that’s perfectly fine! Any first time owner can be successful with any dog, so long as they’re committed. But for those looking for suggestions on breeds that might fit their newbie needs, you can use this list as a guideline!

    1. +Meg Corsos are great dogs ur just have to know how to train it, but one suggestion ur have to start training it from small. They are also very loyal, protective and one of the most intelligent dog breed out there, what dogs won’t come with some good or bad behaviour or habbit just think about it, There great Guard Dogs and Watch Dogs too.

    2. +Latisha Jones never said they weren’t just said they’re not for first time dog owners they’re great dogs in the right hands

    1. It is really interesting to read that since they have been bred to hunt on sight. I also heard that they are super calm at home but as soon as they are off leash on a field for example they go full power 😀

    2. Leschwa89 Greyhounds are actually pretty easy to handle they sleep half the time anyway😂 and they also love cuddling they are great first time dogs in my opinion

    1. Amy Han I did too, because I’ve heard the song before, and I LOVE IT!!! (P.s. its called Invincible by DEAF KEV) 👍

  1. Pugs have a lot of health issues which can be expensive I wouldn’t reccomend getting a pug for first time. Papillions are good dogs tho!

  2. Nice one u put cane Corso on both bad and good dog breeds for first time owners. 👏👏👏(sarcastic)

  3. Ugh I want a dog so bad but my parents will only let me get one if I pay for it so my local pet rescue has some adorable dogs and I’m saving up yo get one!!😁

  4. I had a bichion poodle for my first dog when I was 2 (he passed away this year on thanksgiving due to being ran over) he was the best dog and easiest to take care of. I recommend getting one.

  5. I’m trying to convince my dad to get me a dog please like this for me to show him and convince him

    1. hell ye everyone is . Bruh wut do u think we are? we know what it takes and we ARE willing to take the chance

    2. Yeh I agree with @offensive username . You will have to prove it, like work out all the costs into a table so he will know how much it costs. Also dogs are very expensive, it’s not just about buying it and the vets bills etc. What happens if it will need an operation, they are super expensive. Will you or your dad be prepared to spend that on it. I mean I know it’s your choice and stuff but in my opinion don’t just ask for a puppy, prove to him that you will pick up it’s poop and be responsible and walk it even when it’s freezing cold in the rain. 😃
