Today on Modern Builds I'm building my second modern dog house. This one is a bit more appropriate for the average sized dog compared to my last dog house.

Your cedar roof shingles are upside down! Thin side goes up!

  2. Hoàng Quốc Việt says:

very funny, “this dog house has the hardwood floor, haha”

  3. Brian Ernste says:

    The shingles…they’re up-side-down.

  4. Robin Lewis says:

Wasn’t sold on the colour at first but at the end, against all the timber, it looks great! Great project as always Mike

    • Modern Builds says:

      Haha, sweet! Thanks Rob

That has to be the coolest dog house ever. Nice!

Awesome bro i like it sir good job 🙂

  7. Subversive Hippie says:

Wood glue doesn’t work well on paint. Most people recommend scraping pant off before trying to glue to the wood. I’m sure the nails will suffice though.

    • Modern Builds says:

Yeah, I just figured the nails would hold it.

    • Ken Boldt says:

I was going to say the same thing. Otherwise a very nice build.

Mike, I love how simple your builds are, in that they use basic tools that most people have access to. Please keep it up.

  8. Joe Basement Woodworking & DIY says:

  12. Asotosios Asotosios says:

    Just a suggestion…
Next time you make a dog house try to locate the doorway in one side of the structure (off center) so the dog can hide behind the large side wall so be protected from wind when inside.
Overall a luxurious dog house well done.

  13. Alicia Villegas says:

i love this!!!! i gonna try to make one for my dog here in Colombia… but i dont know all the mesures and in the written article dont show all!!!! help because i can try to make it but i need to pay for some one cut the wood

  14. Skata na fas says:

I want to make a dog house also….
    but i have no dog…. 🙁

  15. Ian Simpson says:

Shingles : lay them thin end UP, and make sure they overlap by two thirds. Simple. Thanks for the video

  16. Ashely Harrell says:

First off, this was a awesome build! great job. I’m building 2 smaller versions for my 2 yorkshire terriers. I wanted to know the height difference between the front and back of the dog house? I also wanted to know where to find the solar panel?? Again, thank you for this awesome build!

    • Modern Builds says:

I got the solar light from home depot, they’re the kind that go along a sidewalk. i dont remember the exact difference, it may be in the video, i think to was between 6 and 12 inches

  17. Sam says:

My dog would have so much swag with this lol sad i don’t have none of these fancy building materials to make it.

  18. Richard Knight says:

So I am almost finished building one at my place. Where on earth did you find cedar shingles? Awesome channel by the way.

    • Modern Builds says:

Right on! I got mine at my local Home Depot… I know a lot of places have quit carrying them, though because of the fire risk. My local Lowe’s didn’t carry them.

    • Richard Knight says:

Yea here in the Midwest they are wanting to sell them by the pallet. Perhaps I will try another route. Would love to see some kitchen tricks you know. Have been going round and round on cheap kitchen remodel ideas and can’t seem to commit to one.

    • Karen Eason says:

Hi Richard, what did you end up doing about the shingles?

  19. Pootin says:

This is a decorative dog house, not one for everyday use. The doors of the dog house need to be located on the side and the house has to (edit) have two parts. It also should have some isolation.

    • Three Legged Trixie says:

      Pootin Bítch I’m 16. Gfys

    • MusicIsLife says:

I agree with you to the most part- there are some dogs out there tat are simply domestic and prefer to be inside

    • Jjordan Sartorio says:

I was thinking the same way. Dog houses should have good insulation as well. Imagine living in a small space like that and its summer or winter. Maybe it will work for a 16yo diy project though 🙂

  20. Anita Heezen says:

The admiral blue actually makes it look like a police dog house
